"Civilization IV - Age of Empire" is a game that creates a socio-economical model, mapping the processes, flows, comparativeness and differentiation in the market. This model simulates activities of some of the world's top IT corporations. The game displays the functioning of today's IT complex machine in a most transparent way, including the role of military-entertaining complex, immaterial labor, pharmaceutical industry, net.economy, business espionage, surveillance mechanisms, sex/porn industry, terrorism, governmentality, schizophrenia.

The name of the game, "Civilization IV" is questioning the copyrighting of the word "Civilization" by Sid Meyers & Co. which should be common property for the whole of humanity.
Civilization IV is een on-line project van de Eastwood Real Time Strategy Group, waarin het vrije verkeer van en de controle op informatie en kapitaal door middel van een simulatie worden onderzocht. Op basis van de bekende game-engine Civilization III worden de structuren van onze informatiemaatschappij doorgelicht. Civilization IV illustreert op transparante manier hoe het hedendaagse IT-apparaat werkt, inclusief de rol daarbij van de farmaceutische industrie, de net-economie, bedrijfsspionage, surveillancemechanismen, de porno-industrie, terrorisme, overheden en ontregelende factoren.
