Eléonore Hellio (FR)

Eléonore Hellio grew up in Paris and Geneva. From an early age, she experienced close encounters with personnalities from the counter-culture that explored realities and were involved in magazines such as Planète in France and the Whole Earth Catalog in the United States that became the Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link (WELL). She has had a dual residence between France and the United States since 1985. She studied drama in the State University of New-York and focused on experimental theater through Artaud, Grotowski, the Living theater, Butoh.  Her interest in electronic arts arose in the 80's when she met the radical iranien theater director Reza Abdo, a group of designers called Design Outlaws who were close to Buckminster Fuller and the artists and thinkers involved in the pionnering Electronic Cafe experience. New media became for her a possibility to be in a transdiciplinary approach of the arts while exploring paradigmes of the future present. She started to be active in cyberspace in the beginning of the 90's when she became one of the main co-operating artist of the Electronic Cafe International.
Today she develops open systems as a context that makes use of network technologies. She questions the sensorial and the aesthetic experience of telepresence and pushes it to its limits as in the project M.U.S.H. . She has explored virtual shared spaces in a transmediatic approach, that is visual arts, sound, performance, poetry and cybernetics combined. Her work culminates in install-actions that can be perceived as a public and evolutive laboratory. She is now the head teacher of the Digital Lab at the Strasbourg School of Visual Art  (ESAD) in France where she initialized different projects that links art and teaching such as "species of the interzone" festivals, the ESP teleperformance group and OVNI (unidentified virtual object) research group. She is also the co-creator with Joachim Montessuis of the eternalnetwork.org project, a tribute to Fluxus artist Robert Filliou.
